(This episode was written by a woman; I wish they had addressed this)
There’ an interesting tradition in science fiction of straight-gay role reversal: Charles Beaumont’s “The Crooked Man” and the 1937 novel Swastika Night by Katherine Burdekin are both examples depicting a future where heterosexuals are a persecuted minority. I assume “The Outcast” was aiming for something similar, though for a host of reasons it doesn’t really come across.
