Women at Warp: A 10-Year Mission
Intersectional Star Trek Podcast to wind down next March
Today the hosts of Star Trek podcast Women at Warp announced that the show will be wrapping up in March 2025, after a successful 10-year run. Episodes will be released as regular until then, and Patreon hangouts, watchalongs and other rewards will be fulfilled. After our final episode, content will continue to be available for as long as we are able to make it so.
Here is their statement on this announcement:
Women at Warp was first formed in 2015 by Andi, Grace, Jarrah and Sue, who came together after noticing a lack of women in Star Trek podcasting. We made it our mission to create space for women, BIPOC folks, LGBTQIAP+ folks, and people from other equity-deserving groups to have their voices heard in Star Trek fandom. In 2020, Aliza and Kennedy joined the crew and made it the show what it is today.
Since our conception, we have released episodes on schedule every two weeks, except for a brief hiatus during the SAG-AFTRA strike last year. We’ve also released over 30 supplemental episodes, including recordings of convention panels, and interviews with Star Trek personalities like Gersha Phillips, Gates McFadden, Melissa Navia, and Kate Mulgrew. Our last regular episode will be our 259th, set to release March 31, 2025. We are proud of what we have accomplished, and so grateful to our listeners and our patrons for making all of this possible.
When we started Women at Warp, we were the only Star Trek podcast hosted entirely by women. Sometimes other women would reach out saying they were thinking about starting their own show, but were worried if there was enough space. We actively encouraged them because we believe our fandom is better when diverse voices are heard. One of the things we’re most proud of in our 10 years is the work we did to profile new voices in Star Trek podcasting, through guesting on our episodes and events like our IDIC Podcast Festival.
Our 10-year anniversary in March 2025 feels like an appropriate end point for our project. It is safe to say the Star Trek podcast universe is much different today than when we started, with many more powerhouse podcasts hosted by diverse folks, like SyFy Sistas, The Duras Sisters, Strange New Pod, and so many more.
Again, we want to thank our listeners for taking this journey with us. Your thoughtful notes, insightful topic suggestions, and overall support for our show are what made Women at Warp possible. We’re so excited to share our last wave of episodes with you over the next six months. There’s lots still to come. Stay tuned.
